Because our firefighters are often the first responders to people in need, District firefighters provide many valuable services to the community, including emergency medical care. Sixty percent of CVFD’s responses are for medical emergencies. Many of our firefighters are paramedics, and all of our firefighters are at least emergency medical technicians. A serious medical emergency requires 5-6 responders for effective intervention. This is why an engine and an ambulance always respond on a serious medical emergency. CVFD also has a well-trained cadre of EMS-only volunteers that supplement our career staff.
